MG Engineering (MG) engaged with a contractor to review pipe supports for high-temperature, high-pressure piping systems in a facility in BC. Our team conducted a thorough pipe stress analysis and prepared the required pressure piping registration package in compliance with Technical Safety BC regulations.
Our mechanical engineer collaborated closely with our structural engineers to verify that the pipe reaction loads were adequately supported by the structure and conform to ASME code requirements. This process involved conducting a detailed structural analysis using SAP2000 for each pipe support, checking deflection, and ensuring sufficient strength and stiffness. Based on our analysis, we provided recommendations to enhance the stability of the pipe anchor points. These included designing concrete footings to resist overturning moments, adding bracing to support cantilevered point loads, and modifying columns to prevent torsion.
