MG worked with Pipeline Systems Inc. (Concord, CA) to provide process, mechanical, and civil engineering as well as cost estimating for the basic and detailed design of a 8,000 tpd tailing system for a Canadian gold mine.
This project included two tailings pipelines: a short (4 km) line to a new tailings impoundment and a longer (23 km) line to an abandoned mining area near the Goldex site. The longer line will allow the new mine’s non-acid generating tailings to be used to entomb the abandoned workings to curtail acid runoff.
The project included a multi-stage centrifugal slurry pump train, installed spare pump train, and valving to allow either pipeline to be operated. The two pipelines are constructed with bare steel and HDPE sections. The pipelines are buried and were installed in a cold weather environment.
